Dallas Mavericks defeat Toronto Raptors to capture 4th victory in five games – NBA Recap
The Dallas Mavericks won their fourth game in the five played so far in the season when they defeated the Toronto Raptors 109-104 here at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Wednesday night. It was a close game that went
all the way, but the Mavericks were able to steal the victory on the back of great performances by Chris Kaman and O.J. Mayo. Kaman finished the game with 22 points and 8 rebounds while Mayo had 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the night. Andrea Bargnani
had a game high 25 points and 9 rebounds for the Raptors.
Both teams started off well in the first period, with Jose Calderon knocking down a three pointer after O.J. Mayo hit one as well to have the Raptors trailing 7-9. After Jonas Valanciunas hit a slam dunk to have the Raptors trailing
11-15, the Mavericks went on a 6-0 run to extend their lead to 21-11. Toronto scored the next five points but a three pointer by Troy Murphy put the Mavs up 30-18. Dallas led 36-24 at the end of the first quarter.
The Mavericks opened the second quarter on a 7-4 run that put them up 43-28, and a dunk by Brandan Wright later in the period had them leading 52-39. The Mavericks held on to a comfortable lead throughout the rest of the period
to go into the halftime break with a 61-50 advantage.
The Raptors attempted to cut into the Mavs lead in the third period but Dallas matched every play with one of their own, and a layup by Mayo followed by a three pointer put them up 77-62. The Raptors closed the period on a 5-2
run to somewhat cut into the Mavs lead and trail them 74-82.
The Mavericks looked in no mood to allow any slack to the Raptors, starting the final period with an 8-2 run capped off by a three pointer by Vince Carter that extended their lead to 90-76. However, an 11-5 run by the Raptors later
in the period put them within 9 of the Mavericks, and a layup by Dominic McGuire had them within 6. However, the Mavericks held on to take the 109-105 victory in the end.
Vince Carter came off the bench to score 17 points and 5 rebounds for the Mavericks, while Darren Collison added 15 points. DeMar DeRozan had another big night for the Raptors, scoring 24 points,6 rebounds and 7 assists, while
