Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion to star in a reality show: NBA Update
In the midst of the National Basketball Association lockout, when most of the players are looking to find jobs or tweak their play, Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion has come up with some interesting plans.
The 33 year old is looking shoot a reality show in the month of August called “Ladies in My Life”.
Marion said, "They want to do it, so we're going to do it. We're going to test it out and see how much fun we can have with it."
Shawn was the one who gave the original idea of the show back in 2009 to his publicist Danika Berry in their first meeting. The show will also feature Marion’s mother and three sisters that includes 6 ft twin Shawnette.
Berry took the idea to a reality show creator, who agreed to shot it. Berry said, "I told him it would be tasteful and tailored the right way".
Marion, who is also known by the name of “The Matrix” because of his excellent athleticism and defensive skills, does not has that lone engagement during this work stoppage.
Prior to this the veteran arranged a free basketball camp for kids in his native land (North Chicago). Where Marion was awarded with the key of the city and later he made the first pitch in Chicago Cubs game.
On receiving the key of the city, Marion said, "It was amazing. They reached out to me. They showed me a lot of love. It touched me. I've been trying to help the kids, but my goal wasn't to be rewarded for it."
The 6 ft. 7 is not just devoted to social activities, had also tremendously contributed towards charitable foundation that he created to help the single mothers across the country. Marion’s interest towards this cause rose because his mother also raised him as a single parent. Therefore he shares a special bound with his mother and sisters.
Marion said, "Your mother can do a great job of raising you, but there are things she can't do that a man can do. I know how hard it is to raise any kids in this world, and to do it by yourself, it's a big challenge."
A television network had also offered Marion to partake in a reality dance show, but Shawn discarded the suggestion. The exuberant defender has gained a lot of fame from the 2011 NBA Finals, where he successfully limited Miami Heat’s ace player LeBron James. Moreover, he achieved decent stats in the postseason by tallying 11.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game.
In spite of this excellent performance, Marion is planning to do something different in the future, as he is not much interested in playing basketball further. Marion participated in the 2009 and 2010 World Series of Poker and now he is seriously thinking about following that career, as he enjoyed it a lot. In addition to that, high school basketball coaching is also on the cards.
