Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West fined $25,000 for Wet willy - NBA Update
Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West was fined with $ 25,000 for a unique technical foul.
The weird act took place in the 2nd quarter of Utah Jazz triple overtime victory over Mavs. He fouled Gordon Hayward in an attempted possession and after the foul he walked towards Hayward and jabbed him in his ear with
figure, West called it wet willy a juvenile act, however Gordon walked away and didn’t engage in any confrontation.
Initially the referee overlooked the incident but the crowd started to chant ‘Throw Him Out’.
The said reaction was based on the notion that it was not just a wet willy he jabbed him forcefully with his finger.
The Mavs guard thought that he would get away unnoticed but the very next day his stunt cost him a $25,000 fine by NBA. The organization called it a physical taunt and he was lucky that he didn’t get suspended.
The plenty was enough to sober him and on Wednesday night before Dallas played Houston, West was talking about virtues.
"I didn't think it was going to be that steep," West said. "It's a play that shouldn't be in the game. ... It's not a good example to set for the youth that we are trying to teach to play the right way."
This was not the first time that the 28 years old found himself in murky waters. He pulled off a direr natured stunt back in 2009. He was pulled over for a traffic violation while riding a bike. It was found that he had 3 semi
automatic hand guns in his possession. He was arrested and afterwards was sentenced for electronic monitoring and 40 hours of community service along with psychological counselling.
On the contrary Hayward kept his cool and conducted professionally, he walked away from him with his hands in the air.
"I wanted to fight right there, but you can't do that," Hayward said. "It wouldn't have been the smart idea. I'd risk getting a technical foul, getting suspended for the season, whatever."
Mavs coach Rick Carlisle didn’t comment about the fine and said that the team has accepted it and moved forward. However he must have had a good conversation with West and that was the reason the player talked about discipline
and role model.
“I get intense and I get fiery out there, he just wants me to channel my energy the right way”.
Delonte conduct reflects poorly upon the reigning champions repute and the management will ensure that he doesn’t pull any childish prank in the coming future.
West, averaging 9.5 points, 3.2 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game in this season has learnt his lesson the hard way.
