Dallas Mavericks’ guard Rodrigue Beaubois undergoes a second ankle surgery – NBA Update
Dallas Mavericks guard Rodrigue Beaubois who reportedly injured his left ankle, yet again in the season finale has undergone a second surgery.
Rodrigue Beaubois had injured his ankle initially while training with the French national basketball team for the 2010 World Championships. At that time, the French team had announced that Rodrigue Beaubois will make a full recovery
preceding his surgery. However, that did not happen. The surgery was not successful and according to the team, the injury re-occurred because of continued complications.
After his first injury in August 2010, the 6ft-2in combo guard reappeared back on the court in February 2011. After his comeback, the 23 year old French guard began practice with the Dallas Mavericks. He played his season’s first
game against the Sacramento Kings and soon replaced fellow Mavericks guard, DeShawn Stevenson in the starting line-up. His return was not to be long lived, though. Just before the 2011 playoffs, Rodrigue Beaubois sprained his left ankle once again and was
restricted on the bench for the entire playoff season.
Back in May, when Rodrigue was asked about his injury, he seemed upbeat and said that he was looking forward to the summers for a couple of reasons. "This summer is going to be very important for me. I first have to recover from
my foot injury because I am still not 100 percent. I have a lot of work to do and just want to be ready to come back at 100 percent. Right now, I just support my teammates and if they call me and want me to play I am going to give everything. It is the last
step, so I have to forget about my foot and just go out there."
This latest surgery will however sideline him for at least two to three months.
The shooting guard was expected to play an important role in the Dallas Mavericks’ line-up. He had a good rookie season but managed to play only 28 games the previous season. His absence in the playoffs reduced Rick Carlisle’s
options on the back court and also put more load on the likes of Jason Terry, DeShawn Stevenson and J.J Barea.
The only good thing that can come out of the injury is that Beaubois has got nearly three months before the regular season starts. He can also get extra time to recover and attain game fitness, if the league is locked out due to
the Labour dispute. The only thing, he and the Dallas fans, will be hoping at the moment is for this surgery to be the last.
