Dallas Mavericks halted San Antonio Spur’s winning streak, 103 – 94
The Dallas Mavericks brought San Antonio's winning streak to a standstill in the 12th game, beating the Spurs 103-94 at the AT&T Center, San Antonio. Some 18,581 basketball fans witnessed the unfortunate defeat of the best team of the season.
Dirk Nowitzki carried the load, posting a team–highest 25 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and dished out five assists for the Mavericks. Tyson Chandler and Shawn Marion each contributed with 19 points.
Manu Ginobili posted 31 points for Spurs but could not inspire his team to their 12th consecutive win. Grant Hill chipped 21 points and Tim Duncan added 15 points and 8 rebounds.
Spurs headed the first quarter of the game with 2 points (29 – 27). Ginobili scored 16 points in the first. Matt Bonner also had a 3-pointer for Spurs with 01:15 remaining. Tony Parker, Ginobili, and Hill played the second fantastically; the spurs led the
first half, 51 – 49. The Maverick’s defense bunkered down during the final session and the Spur’s offense found ways to score as they led 76-71 with 11:28 to go.
The last two minutes of the game turned to be very crucial for both teams. With 1:44 left, Nowitzki contributed a 19-foot jumper to complete a 9-0 run for a 95-88 lead.
The Mavericks added 32 points in the fourth quarter, holding the Spurs to 21 points, and continued to break the 100-point barrier on the road, 103 – 94.
The turning point of the game came when the Mavericks, who lost all three playoff games in San Antonio in their first-round loss last season, pulled away with a 14-2 run within the final five minutes.
The best player for the Maverick’s on the night was clearly Dirk Nowitzki. He averages a staggering 34 points in his last three games.
On the other hand, the performance of Spurs’ Richard Jefferson was not up to the mark as he just scored just two points and missed all four of his field goal attempts.
Dallas improved to 11-4 and now has a season-best four-game winning streak.
