Dallas Mavericks have a lot of hurdles to overcome for the Championship repeat – NBA Special Report (Part-3)
Miami Heat
LeBron James won’t be the only player from the South Beach, who will have a score to settle with the Dallas Mavericks in the next season.
Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will only be the two other players, not to mention the likes of Udonis Haslem, Joel Anthony, Mike Miller and Mike Bibby. These were the guys, who were left staring at the lights while the Mavs celebrated
on Miami’s home turf.
Last year, was the first, when the triple ripple of the South Beach played together. They faltered many times during the regular season, picked themselves up at times, but by the time they reached the playoffs, we saw a mere trailer
of what the Big Three can do, when playing in sync.
They crushed everything that came in their way on the road to the Finals, be it the big boys of the East, the Boston Celtics, or the resurgent Chicago Bulls. However, once in the Finals, the intensity of the moment and some unreal
performances by Dirk Nowitzki meant that the first year in which the James, Wade and Bosh came together was not to be a glorious one.
However, that does not mean that their vow to land multiple championships together has become shallow. Last season was more of an experiment. The team had three great players and stars playing together always take time to build
trust and workout the chemistry. That period has passed now, they know their jobs pretty well and come next season, the Heat will be a force to reckon with.
The Dallas Mavericks though will have to pull out something extraordinary if they are to once again subdue the most talented and athletic combination of players, the league has witnessed in the last decade.
Los Angeles Lakers
Last season, Miami Heat was not the only team, which the Dallas Mavericks knocked over to win the NBA Championship.
On the way to the Finals, the Mavs took down a team that was gunning for the third consecutive NBA title – the Los Angeles Lakers.
It is not a hidden fact that the Lakers are the most egoistic team around and to say that their egos would have taken a thrashing after the Mavs swept the Western Conference Semifinal Series would be an understatement.
Led by Kobe Bryant, the Lakers have been ‘the’ most dominant team in the last decade and when they get hurt, they have a track record of playing together and delivering. If you doubt me, just remember what they did after losing
the NBA Finals to the Boston Celtics in 2008.
The Mavs will have to deal with the Lakers next season and believe me that team will not make it easy for Champions.
