Dallas Mavericks hold off Philadelphia 76ers for a 107-100 win: NBA Recap
O.J. Mayo and Chris Kaman carried Dallas Mavericks to a 107-100 win over the Philadelphia 76ers here at the American Airlines Center on Tuesday night, snapping a three game losing streak.
O.J Mayo scored 26 points, handed out 8 assists, going 8 of 12 from the field. Chris Kaman added 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, and Shawn Marion fell one rebound shy of his double-double as he finished off with 14 points and
9 rebounds.
Kaman had not played in the fourth quarter in 4 of his last 5 games; but tonight he scored 8 points in the final 6:17 minutes of the game and Mayo had 9 points and 3 assists in that stretch to finish off the Sixers.
"It's the most important time of the game," Kaman said. "Its crunch time and I was glad I was out there to finish plays."
"We try to involve those guys in a lot of things because they're both playing well," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "(Mayo's) aggression was really the key."
Dorell Wright came off the bench to add 25 points and grab 5 rebounds in his limited minutes on the court. Spencer Hawes had 18 points while Thaddeus Young chipped in with 12 points for the Sixers, who clearly missed their guard
Jrue Holiday; he missed his third straight game because of a sore foot.
"This Dallas team's a very good offensive team. They put a lot of pressure on you in a lot of ways, and our weakness they can expose. We just couldn't get the ball stopped and keep it out of the paint at the end of the game." Philadelphia
head coach Doug Collins on the game changing 14-4 late in the fourth period that sealed the deal for the Mavericks.
With Dirk Nowitzki still out, Mavericks might have more injury trouble coming their way as guard Derek Fisher left midway through the first quarter with a strained patellar tendon in his right knee and did not return. He will have
an MRI on Wednesday to judge the damage done to his knee but Coach Rick Carlisle said
“We don't believe it's serious,"
Dallas led the Sixers 57-52 at halftime, Young made a layup early in the third period to make it a one point game on 60-61. It remained close throughout the period with no team piling up a significant advantage at any stage; and
the Mavs were leading 76-74 by the end of the period.
Hawes tipped one in to leave 76ers trailing 78-80 early in the final quarter. The Mavericks went for a run to go up 88-80 and Kaman scored four straight to push their lead to 94-82 with 4:16 on the regulation. Mayo and company
closed the game comfortably from that stage onwards to win 107-100 eventually.
