Dallas Mavericks needs to re-sign Tyson Chandler at any cost: NBA Special

After nearly two years of negotiation and 149 days of lockout, a 66-game season, starting from 25th December, is finally on the cards.
For the reigning champions Dallas Mavericks, the main objective would be to defend the NBA title. However, there is a bigger and important task for Mavericks before they sketch a roadmap to win it all for the second successive
time.
That task is to re-sign the muscular centre Tyson Chandler who is a free agent this year.
The 29-year-old Chandler became the most important player in the free market from the moment his one-year contact with Dallas Mavericks expired at the end of the successful last season. However the NBA lockout postponed the free
agency on 1st July, which has kept the big man in a state of uncertainty.
Chandler has declared his intentions to re-sign with the team and this is what Dallas Mavericks needs to do in order to achieve big next season.
With his arrival in the last season, Dallas Mavericks finally found the right man to complement Dirk Nowitzki and what followed was the first NBA Championship in 31 years of franchise history.
Nowitzki is one of the best scorers in the league however his defensive game is not that strong. This is where Chandler steps in. Chandler’s defensive presence is the most important factor of his game, far more than the numbers
he puts on the board.
The 7 foot 1 inch centre alleviates the pressure in the back court which enables Dirk Nowitzki to concentrate more on his offensive game. This was a thing which Dallas Mavericks had been lacking for the last 10 years and coming
into last season they were branded as the perennial underachievers of the league.
Secondly, Chandler might not score in double figures every night. However, he is not only an incredible rebounder; he opens up a lot of opportunities for his team mates and keeps the score board ticking.
He was pivotal in creating the offensive screens for the Mavs late last season and his brilliance on the opposite D, allowed his teammates to break into the defensive system of the opposition.
Tyson Chandler is a kind of a player who might not look as good in numbers as he is on the court. His role is basically to dominate the paint and restrict the opposition from taking control. This is what exactly Dallas Mavericks
need.
They have the experience of Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd, athleticism and agility of Jason Terry and J.J. Barea and the versatility of Shawn Marion and Caron Butler. Mavericks only need a player to keep all the pieces intact and
Tyson Chandler is the best man for the job.
