Dallas Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban out from Los Angeles Dodgers' bidding race
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ potential sale has entered in a new phase where two bidders with the lowest offers were eliminated from their chance to purchase the team.
On Friday night, two well known US businessmen Mark Cuban, who is the owner of current National Basketball Association Champions, the Dallas Mavericks and baseball executive and former agent Dennis Gilbert, were eliminated from the Dodgers’ bidding race.
Mark Cuban has also previously tried to purchase the Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers in recent past but was unable to find the right amount of money for both clubs.
Initially these reports were not confirmed, but later some inside MLB sources told reporters on condition of anonymity.
Later those sources also told some reporters that at least eight bidders are through to the second round which includes Magic Johnson, veteran baseball executive Stan Kasten, a local developer Rick Caruso, former Dodgers' manager Joe Torre, east Coast hedge fund giant Steven Cohen, former Dodgers' owner Peter O'Malley, St. Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke, investor and civic leader Stanley Gold and the family of Roy Disney.
Earlier, Michael Ozanian, a executive editor at Forbes writes about the business of sports especially for US sports, recently stated in the media about the Southern Californian franchise’s bidding and potential sale process.
He said, “Given what I have learned about the court-sealed agreement between the Dodgers and Major League Baseball on the sale of the team, media rights and related assets, bids will definitely be over $1.4 billion and perhaps as high as $2 billion.”
Some two days ago, another source, who is also very close to the bidding process, explained in the media saying, “So many groups going around looking for money this close to the bid deadline and they don't have their ducks in a row -- give me a break. Most of the leverage is with Fox. In my mind, they are the 800-pound gorilla in the corner everyone is ignoring, if they want to buy it, they can buy it.”
Currently the Dodgers are facing bankruptcy issues and to avoid any further debacle, the commissioner of baseball Bud Selig has initiated this process for an effective sale of the team.
