Dallas Mavericks planning to go all out for Net All-Star PG Deron Williams - NBA Update
Out of the playoffs and on the road to redemption, Dallas Mavericks have started to think in the rebuilding direction.
It seems that the whole team is on an all out campaign to entice Deron Williams, the Nets All Star point guard. Based on their current performance, it is evident that the club is in a dire need of a player who can share the offensive
load with Dirk Nowitzki.
The German giant is in the twilight of his career and will be 34 in this summer. A decline in his performance was already visible this season, in which he shot his career low around 46 percent from the floor.
To rope in Williams the franchise can use the option of Jason Kidd. The veteran and Williams go a long way back. They both have the same native town; agent and their combo can be explosive for the Mavs.
Kidd when asked about the prospect was excited;
"Oh, I can definitely back him up," Kidd said. "That's an easy job."I can be a penalty killer, minutes killer. I'll just have to watch a little hockey and figure out how to kill time, but I could definitely accept that role."
The veteran however is going to be a free agent this summer and it can all happen if the Mavs re-sign him.
The problem with Williams is that he most valuable asset in the free agency and there will be many teams vying to land the celebrated one guard. His old franchise, the New Jersey Nets have already made it clear that they will leave
no stone unturned to retain Williams and build a solid team around him in future.
The Mavs know that roping Williams in will not be easy and their general manager Donnie Nelson revealed that the franchise has contingency plans;
"It's like anything else, you hope for the best,"' Nelson said. "But again, whether it happens or doesn't, that's why you have your contingency plans, and so we're hopeful."
There is nothing that money can’t fix but a seasoned player like Deron will think twice before taking the decision. He is going to be 28 soon and is still without a championship. At this stage of his career, he will want to be
in a team that has the potential to win the title. Given that the Mavs are still formidable and he is a Texas native, Williams will surely be inclined toward the club come the free agency.
