Dallas Mavericks put an all round show to roll past New Orleans Hornets: NBA Recap
On Saturday night, the Dallas Mavericks grabbed the win over New Orleans Hornets in an assured display at the American Airlines Center. The Mavericks have been hot and cold early in this season but didn’t have too much trouble
in disposing off the Hornets 96 - 81.
A key strength of the Mavericks is the depth available to head Coach Rick Carlisle and he used it to devastating effect on the night. The Mavericks kept things ticking over at all times and a total of six players got into double
figures for scoring, with former NBA Sixth Man of the Year finishing with 9 points.
Vince Carter started the game and shared team high 13 points with Ian Mahinmi, who also grabbed 7 rebounds. Others in double figures were star forward Dirk Nowitzki, Delonte West, Jason Terry and Rodrigue Beaubois.
Al-Farouq Aminu, the off season import from Los Angeles Clippers, was most impressive for the Hornets. He recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jarrett Jack was also notable, scoring 13 points along with 5 assists
and 7 boards.
The game started on an even note and scores remained pretty close for the first 6 minutes or so. Then, in the seventh minute, Vince Carter made a fade away jump shot to start a 10 – 2 blitz by the Mavericks that put them in the
ascendency. They finished the quarter on top at 26 – 20.
Dallas looked comfortable in the second period as they held on to the lead with minimal effort. A 9 – 2 run late in the quarter put them ahead by double digits and they ended the first half leading by 52 – 41.
The Hornets might have hopes of making a comeback after the break but an 8 – 2 start to the third quarter by Dallas put them firmly in the back seat. Try as they might, the away team simply couldn’t get a run going and never looked
like closing in on their opponents, with the teams heading into the final period at 75 – 65.
Dallas scored 8 without reply to begin the final period and effectively broke the backs of a tired looking New Orleans team. They had other runs in the period as well, scoring at will before time ran out.
