Dallas Mavericks still hungry for more after sweeping the Los Angeles Lakers
The streaking Dallas Mavericks marked their way into the Western Conference finals by sweeping the two times defending champions Los Angeles Lakers. This alone is an achievement not many teams in the league can visualize in their
wildest dreams. This was not the only feat they accomplished on the night. With the win, they also put a scratchy end to the illustrious career of their biggest critic, Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson.
After the Mavs thrashed the Lakers, Dirk Nowitzki, who has been pivotal in Dallas’s drive said. "I'm probably gonna have some pizza tonight and cheat on my diet,"
However, it turns out that the Mavs are hungry for more.
Dallas centre Tyson Chandler said, "It just says that we're a better team than a lot of people gave us credit for. That being said, it doesn't really mean much. We knocked them out, but if we get knocked out, it's not much. Our
goals are a lot bigger than that."
On Sunday, the Mavericks busted the Lakers’ surge towards a historic second 3-peat with a thwarting 122-86 decision at the American Airlines Centre. They not only thrashed the Lakers by 36-points, but also equaled the record for
the highest number of three pointers (20) in a single game.
After the outstanding achievement, the Mavs’ are looking forward to prepare themselves for the championship title this year, rather than settle for just a final place in conference.
"We've still got a long way to go. We're hungry. Our stomach is halfway full. Let's go on and fill it up." veteran forward Shawn Marion said after the game.
At present, the Mavericks’ coach Rick Carlisle is the only member of the franchise, who owns a championship ring. Carlisle won the ring in 1986 when he used to play with the Boston Celtics. Now holding the reigns of the league’s
hottest team, including players like Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry, Carlisle is determined to spearhead Dallas Mavericks for the title fight.
The championship ring is also the only scalp missing from the resumes of Mavericks veterans Nowitzki and Jason Kidd. With their careers in the twilight, this might be the last chance for them to get their hands on the Larry O’
Brian trophy.
Coach Rick Carlisle has emphasized that the abilities are there, the motivation is high and the aim is also clear. "We'll be satisfied when we have a ring."
