Dallas Mavericks win their 17th straight game against Sacramento Kings at home: NBA Recap
Dallas Mavericks continued their domination of the Sacramento Kings at Dallas, putting up a strong defensive performance to drop the Kings 119-96 for their 17th straight win over the Kings in home.
It was a team effort by Dallas as 6 Mavs made it in the double scoring figures on the night. O.J Mayo led the pack with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Chris Kaman collected 18 points while Darren Collison chipped in with 15 points.
The Mavericks shot an impressive 55.2 percent from the floor.
"We're playing good basketball right now," Mayo said. "But now we've got to take it on the road with us and continue playing hard. We need to continue playing with effort and energy."
In contrast, Kings got the bulk of their points from two players while most of the other players struggled on the night. DeMarcus Cousins scored 25 points and grabbed 6 rebounds; Francisco Garcia collected 25 points and made 5
steals while Jason Thompson finished off with 11 points and 12 rebounds for the night.
The home side got off to a good start and a Kaman jumper had them up 11-4 early in the first period. He scored two deuces in quick succession to put the Mavericks ahead 15-7 but the Kings came back to make it a one point affair
on 20-21. The score was tied on 29 later in the period before Darren Collison fired a three pointer to start a 7 nil spurt that put them up 36-29 by the end of the period.
The Mavs kept the Kings at bay for about 11 minutes as they went on rampage to compile a mammoth 32-4 run that jumped them up to 61-33. Kings missed 13 straight shots and committed 8 turnovers in the game changing run.
"Some of it was them missing, "But we were moving our feet. We were in position and we were scrambling. So that made a lot of good things happen for us offensively." said the Dallas coach Rick Carlisle. The Kings came out of the
shock and scored some baskets late in the quarter to reduce the deficit down to 43-65 by the end of the period.
Garcia nailed a three pointer early in third period to reduce the deficit down to 52-67 but the Mavericks were in no mood to let go of their advantage and maintained double digit lead over the Kings throughout the second half.
An Elton Brand jumper early in the fourth period had the Dallas up 90-70; they cruised to a 119-96 win in the end.
Sacramento Kings had their three game winning streak snapped as a result and as they committed 19 turnovers to allow a season high points.
