Dallas Mavericks won’t let go of Jason Terry - NBA Update
Dallas Mavericks veteran Jason Terry (Jet) has been in the news all season long. It is no secret that he is bold and loud.
Now for the 1st time in his professional career, Terry is going to be a free agent and in the wake of this development, there are a lot of news and speculations regarding his new abode.
As this would probably be his last run before panning out snickers, he wants it to be lucrative. Something under the given circumstances Mavs wouldn’t be able to provide. After being clean swept in the 1st round they
are envisaging making phenomenal roster changes under the same salary cap.
For some time it seemed that Jason and Mavs 8 year’s marriage is coming to an end but there is nothing that money can’t fix. Donnie Nelson, Dallas’ president of basketball operations thinks the same and he went onto take the 1st
step to save the marriage.
“We’d love to have Jet back,” Donnie Nelson said Sunday. “You talk about a guy that’s given his heart and soul to this franchise, and made big plays and big shots. You would love to have him back. It’s just, at what cost?”
This is a complex situation for both parties. Jet entering into the twilight of his career wants a cheesy deal, he has been showing interest to board the Southern Beach wagon (Miami Heat) a franchise with a lot to spare in the
form salary cap and they could use Terry along with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade as a solid scoring option.
On the other hand it seems that Mavs’ have started to learn from their mistakes, letting go of Tyson Chandler only to see him grab the best defensive player award and comforting themselves with the thought they don’t miss him.
Dallas are not half the team as compared to last year and they have finally realized that trading key players is not the answer for their plight.
The reconciliation started with keeping the assets on board and the 13 year pro is their prime target. They have been simply trounced by Oklahoma City Thunder and for a defending champion this is matter of great shame.
It is early to name a price but his last contract was of $ 11.4 million and one can imagine the next, however his biggest support in the team is Dirk Nowitziki and he knows Jason’s true worth.
“We all know what he means on the court _ one of the best clutch shooters I think this league has ever seen," Nowitzki said. "But also off the court (he's) always joking, great for the chemistry, great in the community, so he's
my man”.
Dirk and Terry go a long way back and it will be difficult for Jet to say no to him so it can be expected that he will be in Mavs’ jersey next season and will retire wearing it as well.
