Dallas Stars’ captain Brenden Morrow confident of new coach Glen Gulutzan –NHL Offseason Update
Dallas Stars has had some problems after its regular season ended in turmoil as it was not able to make it to the playoffs for the third straight season. It made some changes to not only its line-up, but to the management as well, in hope to have a better
2011-2012 season which will begin in October 2011.
When Glen Gulutzan, the now former head coach of Texas Stars, Dallas Stars’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate club, was announced by general manager, Joe Nieuwendyk, as Dallas’s new head coach, replacing Marc Crawford, captain Brenden Morrow
thought about going out and doing a little research himself.
Morrow contacted multiple players who had served under Gulutzan from all categories and tried to soak out all the details about Gulutzan’s performance as a coach, including some bad details, but to his surprise he only received praise about the Texas Stars’
coach.
"There wasn't one bad word about him", Morrow said after hearing about what former and current players said about him. "They've all said, 'This is the guy you want leading your team'."
Now with Gulutzan, Morrow is confident in Dallas’s bid to regain its glory with Gulutzan’s entry into the team while Nieuwendyk already felt the same way when he offered him the position.
In an attempt to change Dallas Stars’ reputation as a team which has missed three back-to-back playoffs, that did not happen in the first 14 seasons that Dallas Stars was a team, Gulutzan will certainly face a tough challenge.
"I intend to help these players to the best of my ability to move forward and achieve their goals, which ultimately will help us achieve all of ours", Gulutzan said when asked how he feels to have been chosen as the new coach. "I'm very appreciative of the
opportunity".
Dallas also lost one of its veteran players, Brad Richards, to management issues and it is trying hard to retain other players who will be becoming free agents next month.
Replacing its coach was the first step at rebuilding the team. It is now a matter of a few weeks to see where Dallas is really headed.
