Dallas Stars’ centre Derek Roy hopes to return to action in November after shoulder surgery
Derek Roy, a Canadian professional ice hockey player who plays for Dallas Stars in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL), hopes to return to the league in November after recovering from the surgery.
Roy used to play for Buffalo Sabres but he was brought in by Dallas Stars as they traded two of their players, Steve Ott and Adam Pardy to Sabres to avail the services of Derek Roy for their team.
The Ottawa, Ontario resident told that he has not skated for some time but he would be looking to start it slowly. He thinks he would start it after 25-30 days and then he would push himself slightly with the time before playing it properly. He exactly said,
“I haven’t skated in a while. I am going to start skating in three weeks or a month, and get that back up to speed, keep rehabbing the shoulder and move forward."
Roy was suffering from this injury for some time and could even play with it but he chose against it and wanted to be perfectly fit to give his 100% for the team, so this was the reason he wanted to get operated instead of playing it with injury.
Dallas Stars also had the opinion and they suggested their player to get it done rather than having an unfit Derek Roy. The 5-foot-9, 183 pounder added,
"[The Stars] figured a 100-percent Derek Roy would help the team more than playing at 75 percent, getting hurt, coming back and doing that all season. We made the decision on surgery and right now for us, and we are going to move forward. I could have played
with it, but I wouldn’t have been 100 percent."
The 29-year-old was originally drafted by Buffalo Sabres in the 2001 NHL draft and made his NHL debut for them in 2003-2004 season.
Ever since then, Sabres has been the only team that he has played for. Other than them, he has played for American Hockey League (AHL) team Rochester Americans and Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
In total he has played 549 games in the NHL, scoring 161 goals, 266 assists for a total of 427 points.
