Dallas Stars cool down hot Edmonton Oilers 4-1 -NHL Match Update
After Edmonton’s, 9-2, victory over the 2010 Stanley Cup champions, the Chicago Blackhawks, it looked as if they would rip apart any competition that came in their way, but the Oilers were forced back in reality as the Dallas Stars cooled them off, 4-1,
Monday night, November 21, 2011, at the American Airline Center in Dallas, Texas, United States.
Seeing the Dallas Stars rally together with impressive communication between the players, new head coach, Glen Gulutzan, was certainly happy that his team could properly work in sync.
"I think it was our best team effort [of our season]," Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan said. "I thought our guys from top to bottom played 60 minutes hard. I didn't think there was a big lapse and we were committed to playing both ends of the rink. It was a good
win for us. We needed it."
Toby Petersen inaugurated his scoring by added his first goal of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season nearly midway through the opening period.
15 seconds later, Sam Gagner, of Edmonton was booked for slashing and was sent to the benches with a minor penalty, but Dallas failed to fire off another goal.
Steve Ott extended the lead at the 8:58 mark of the second period, but it was followed by Edmonton’s first goal of the night as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ended his scoring drought and potted one with less than five minutes remaining.
Former Boston Bruins player, Michael Ryder, scored to widen the gap nearly a minute later, followed by Radek Dvorak to secure the match for Dallas with less than two minutes remaining in the third and final period of regulation, shorthanded with Brenden
Morrow out for interference.
"We didn't handle it very well," Oilers coach, Tom Renney, said. "We have assets that can intimidate, too. They had us on our heels and we didn't respond real well the first part of the game. We didn't measure up when we needed to."
Dallas hopes to get back into the top spots of the Western Conference after dropping down to number five as they have two more at home, the next being against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday.
Edmonton Oilers will pay a visit to the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.
