Dallas Stars defeat the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in over-time – NHL Recap

The Dallas Stars beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 in over-time at the Staples Centre on Monday. Both teams were desperate for a win, as they look to strengthen their position in the National Hockey League play-off cut.
The game was pretty much evenly contested with the Stars leading at the end of the first period. Both teams bagged regular goals with the Stars scoring a goal more than the Kings in the final period to level the scores on 3-3 as the regulation time ended.
The Stars quickly won the game 4-3 scoring in the very first minute of over-time. Brenden Morrow, winger of the Stars was named the Star of the Game, as he scored the winning goal in over-time.
The Stars made a decent start to the game, but it was the Kings, with the home ice advantage started to create chances for themselves.
The passing and shooting for both teams was brilliant at the start of the period. The Kings managed to score in the ninth minute with Willie Mitchell from a powerful strike to get into the lead. The Kings continued to pile on the opposing team with the Stars
coming up with a few shots but they could not score any further goals.
The period ended with the Kings leading 1-0. During the course of the period, the Stars made 4 shots on goal, as the Kings made 7 attempts.
The second period saw both teams making a decent start to the game, as the period turned into more of an offensive battle. With the passage of time, the attacks and passing improved, as the Stars managed to score in the seventh minute through Mike Ribeiro
from a flick-shot to level the scores.
The Kings also had several chances during the opening part of the period. However, the joy of the Stars was short-lived, as the Kings scored once again in the 8th minute with Justin Williams scoring.
The period saw both teams making several more shots on goal, but they were unable to find the back of the net. The period ended with the Kings leading 2-1. During the course of the period the Stars made 8 shots on goal while the Kings made 11 shots on goal.
The final 20 minutes of play started off with the Stars on fire, as they scored in the second minute through Trevor Daley to level the scores. However, the Kings scored once again in the very next minute to get back into the lead. The goal was scored by
Kyle Clifford from a decent strike.
The Stars did not take too long to score and they bagged the equalizer in the sixth minute with Jamie Benn scoring the goal. The score was 3-3 at the end of the period. During the final 20 minutes of the game saw the Stars making 9 shots on goal, as the
Kings made 5 shots.
The game went into over-time, as the Stars scored through Brenden Morrow from a brilliant quick fired shot to win the game 4-3.
