Dallas Stars expected to hire Glen Gulutzan as new coach –National Hockey League Offseason Updates
Dallas Stars, which is in the process of rebuilding the team, is expected to hire Glen Gulutzan as the new head coach for the team. This comes after a long search of suitable candidates after Dallas Stars fired Marc Crawford, its coach for two seasons.
Nothing has been finalized as yet, but it is said according to sources that the negotiation process for Gulutzan to become the new coach is under way and it will be announced officially as soon as both parties agree on terms and conditions.
“I am looking for a guy that can relate to players and grow with a young group of players”, Dallas Stars’ general manager, Joe Nieuwendyk, said. “I want a longer-term guy. I don’t want the recycling. I want a long-term guy that can build with our young group
of players”.
Joe Nieuwendyk has not confirmed or denied any reports regarding Gulutzan, currently the head coach of Texas Stars which is an affiliate minor league team of Dallas Stars in the American Hockey League (AHL).
According to former players who have served under Gulutzan, he perfectly fits the description of what Nieuwendyk is looking for in his next coach.
“He’s a lot like Bill Cowher”, Dallas’s defenseman, Brad Lukowich, said. “He’ll get fired up, he’ll yell, he’ll feel like he’s one of the players at times. But, at the same time, he will be the leader, and he’ll give you a system where you know you can win.
I have had a lot of good coaches, but he’s right up there with any of them. I have a lot of respect for him”.
Dallas Stars has already lost its all-star centre, Brad Richards, because of issues with the management and hopes to turn the situation around by hiring a new coach and later on finding a new owner.
If Gulutzan is selected, he will become the youngest NHL coach and has the perfect opportunity to make a name for himself on a team which has not been able to make it to the playoffs for the second straight season.
