Dallas Stars looking forward to next season with Jaromir Jagr on board -NHL Update
These past few seasons have definitely been some of the most disappointing for a star ridded team like Dallas Stars, but after a few moves made during the 2012 National Hockey League (NHL) offseason, Texas’ only hockey team is confident for the future.
One of the biggest reasons why Dallas is so confident now is without a doubt none other than one of the greatest players to have ever graced the sport of hockey, Jaromir Jagr.
Dallas signed a $4.55 million contract to acquire the player who did not return to his comeback team in the NHL, Philadelphia Flyers, but has instead focused on joining a team in order to make it better.
At the age of 40, Jagr is still better than every as he put up 54 points (19 goals, 35 assists) with Philadelphia Flyers last season and is ready to prove to Dallas Stars his worth, which the team has not denied in the first place.
"I don't think there's any question he has gas in the tank. He had a terrific season with Philadelphia," Stars general manager, Joe Nieuwendyk, said. "He's still a world-class player. … Even at 40, he's still a difficult guy to contain. He's still as good
as anyone in the League at using that big body down low. He keeps himself in tremendous shape.”
Not only has Jaromir Jagr continued to play like an All-Star player, but the native of Czech Republic even dropped some weight and can now be termed to be quicker than ever before.
"I started the season at 240 and I felt pretty good," Jagr said. "Then I dropped to 228 and I didn't feel that good. I thought my shot wasn't the same way. … That's the experience I learned last year, if I lost the weight I would be quicker.”
Dallas Stars are just hopeful that Jaromir Jagr and a few other quality acquisitions over the offseason will be able to get them back into the playoffs, something which the Czech player has indirectly promised them of and is very capable of doing so.
Next season is certainly one which all Dallas Stars fans are looking forward to and it is not hard to see why.
