Dallas Stars rally in third as Eric Nystrom pots game-winner against Ottawa Senators 3-2 -NHL Update
Ottawa thought that they had it all figured out when they took the lead a little over midway through the final period, but little did they know that Dallas had a comeback on their mind and with Eric Nystrom making the game-winner in the last minutes as the
Stars edged the Senators, 3-2, Thursday night, December 1, 2011 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, United States.
Instead of letting go in the final period of regulation, Dallas kept on pushing their luck and stayed nearly level with Ottawa by making 19 attempts in the last 20 minutes alone, more than their first two periods combined.
"It's that 60-minute cliché game that we talk about," said forward Steve Ott, who scored the first goal for Dallas to level the contest. "For us, sticking with our structure, sticking with that pesky, hard-work hockey paid off again and it's done that a
lot this year."
Erik Condra scored the first of the night 7:07 into the opening period with Steve Ott levelling the score a little over two minutes later during their first power play opportunity with Ottawa’s Nick Foligno out with a minor penalty for holding.
"I thought the first 55 minutes we played real well, but unfortunately we played defensive the last five minutes," Ottawa coach Paul MacLean said. "We couldn't get the puck out of our end when we had opportunities.
After a scoreless second period, Milan Michalek added his 15th of the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season a little over midway to break the tie and give Ottawa the crucial lead but as Dallas’ Radek Dvorak equalised it once again
nearly three minutes later, Eric Nystrom, with less than three minutes to go found the open opportunity and fired off the game-winner to take the match.
Dallas will certainly be looking for a third straight win when they have to host the New York Islanders on Saturday which could potentially move them up into the top rank of the Western Conference to tie it with Minnesota Wild.
Ottawa have their next on the road against the Washington Capitals on the same day.
