Dallas Stars’ skipper glad to get positive feedback in his research regarding new coach Glen Gulutzan
Dallas Stars has had a few changes made in different positions in its team recently which include losing a player and hiring a new coach. Both decisions were important and necessary as they opened up paths for better opportunities.
In the National Hockey League (NHL) there are always matters of concern and discussion between players and team management after the season ends.
A few days after Stars missed its third consecutive playoff cut under the leadership of coach, Marc Crawford, general manager, Joe Nieuwendyk, announced Crawford’s termination and his replacement, head coach of Dallas’s affiliate American Hockey League’s (AHL) Texas Stars’ club, Glen Gulutzan.
Brenden Morrow, the Dallas Stars’ captain, took it upon himself to find out if Gulutzan was the right guy or not. Hence, Morrow went out to do a little research, talking with players who had played under Gulutzan and received full-on positive feedback about the 39-year-old.
"There wasn't one bad word about him", Morrow said after his initiative to search around for Gulutzan’s reputation. "They've all said, 'This is the guy you want leading your team'".
This result made Morrow even more excited, not just for him and the team, but for the season ahead, which could yield the results Dallas has yearned for so long.
"We're excited to have him here", Morrow said during Gulutzan’s first press conference in Dallas as Stars’ head coach. "He's had success at every other level. Why not here"?
Dallas has gone downstream as a team in the last three seasons, contrary to its reputation in the 14 seasons prior to that.
Stars is one of the most recognised NHL teams in the world and watching them in this slump is always depressing for not only the team management, but the fans as well.
Gulutzan vowed to make the right changes and do the best he could with the experience he has gained so far as a coach.
"I intend to help these players to the best of my ability to move forward and achieve their goals, which ultimately will help us achieve all of ours", Gulutzan said. "I'm very appreciative of the opportunity".
Stars will now have the time to focus on the upcoming NHL free agency and entry draft in order to fill veteran Brad Richards’ place and concentrate on brining in young blood in the franchise.
