Dallas Stars to be without forward Jamie Benn for next couple of games due to leg injury – NHL News
Dallas Stars’ coach, Glen Gulutzan, said that they expect back their forward, Jamie Benn, in their game against the Montreal Canadiens in Montreal next Tuesday, after his miss of couple games due to a leg injury.
Benn came on the sidelines during his team practice on Friday, February 17, 2012, reflecting on his inevitable ousting from the side for their next two games, atleast, after having suffered a cut on his leg.
He was reported to have been inflicted on a cut on his thigh from Flames of skates of his fellow player, Stars’ defenseman, Mark Giordano.
The player was inspected and treated for the injury, and told to have received 13 stitches for patching up of his cut.
He will need to sit out for a couple of games before he reports back his recovery and being able to play again.
The coach said that the player will sit out of the Phoenix game on Saturday and Sunday’s Nashville game. The next game for Stars is on next Tuesday at the Montreal and Gulutzan expects availability of Benn by then.
Following injury, the player has spoken of the unfortunate incident, rueing his inability to play the weekend’s game.
At the same time, he said that he was lucky enough that he has not suffered any deeper wound, which could prove to be a rather worse situation for him.
"It's a little unlucky, but lucky at the same time. It didn't damage it too bad. I am going to get back on rehab here and I hope to be back soon," Benn said.
He explained:
"I just went to go hit the guy, he kept the puck in, I kind of fell and his skate cut the back of my leg. It was a little bit of a freak accident. You hope it's not too bad. It was bleeding pretty good there when it happened. I tried to hobble off pretty
quick and the doctors did a good job of stitching me up."
Irrespective to the coach’s hope of him being able to play again by middle of the next week, the player himself called his recovery progress a day-to-day call, and saying he would see how it would go then.
While being seen on crutches during his team’s practice on past Friday, he did not look much confident about the entire situation and there is a possibility that he may well miss a couple of more games in addition to his absence on the weekend.
The coach himself has also admitted that the player has suffered a ‘significant’ cut on his leg, and his remarks apparently coincide with the player’s concerns about his recovery within next few days.
