Dallas Stars win 3-1 against Edmonton Oilers
Another one of the matches on Wednesday was the Dallas Stars playing host to the Edmonton Oilers. Both teams had different reasons to win the match with Oilers trying to avoid the bottom place while Dallas Stars looking to close the gap up front at the top
of the table. The match was played at the American Airlines Arena and promised to be a very exciting match.
Indeed, this turned out to be the case as Edmonton Oilers without any doubts dominated the game with more goal attempts than Dallas Stars and possession but they failed to capitalize from the ample amount of chances they got. The result was Dallas Stars
winning the match 3-1 in the end. Brenden Morrow was named the star selection of the match for his two goals.
Edmonton Oilers made a great start to the match giving one of the strong teams of the season some tough time. Dallas Stars tried hard to near the opposing goal but they constantly failed in doing so. However, with the passage of time this happened as Dallas
Stars unsettled the Oiler’s defence with shots from everywhere on the pitch and regularly.
Dallas Stars with the strong offence managed to pile up attacks in the middle part of the period which resulted in the home teams taking the lead with a goal in the 11th minute scored by Adam Burish to get into the lead.
After the goal, Edmonton Oilers once again started to attack and make goal attempts but their poor form up front continued. They couldn’t score and the period ended with Dallas Stars leading 1-0 going into the break. During the first period, Dallas Stars
made 5 goal attempts while Edmonton Oilers made 11 goal attempts.
Dallas Stars were quick to get out off the block as the second period started and with some strong passing and shooting, Dallas Stars were able to double the lead in the 3rd minute. The goal was scored by Brenden Morrow from a decent flick shot.
Dallas Stars continued to attack even though they led. There were chances of them allowing goals but this didn’t happen as the next goal was again scored by Dallas Stars in the 9th minute. The goal was scored by Brenden Morrow once again this
time from a well placed flick shot.
Edmonton Oilers again made quite a few goal attempts during the period but this time managed to score through Dustin Penner in the 18th minute. This was the final goal of the period as Dallas Stars led 3-1 going into the break.
During the 20 minutes of play, Dallas Stars made 6 goal attempts while Edmonton Oilers made 11 goal attempts.
The second period saw both teams attacking from the start till the end. The similarity in strategy resulted in the teams cancelling out each other. As a result, no goals were scored during the course of the period and match ended with the Dallas Stars winning
3-1 in the end. During the course of the final period, Dallas Stars made 10 goal attempts while Edmonton Oilers made 13 goal attempts.
