Dallas Stars win 3-2 against St. Louis Blues after shootout
The 62nd game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series took place at the American Airlines Centre, home of the Dallas Stars this Saturday. The game saw the St. Louis Blues go up against the Dallas Stars with 12,000 fans coming to see their teams.
Both teams were playing in their 4th game of the regular season.
The 1st period saw the away side start explosively as they dominated the play in the department of offence as well as defence. The Dallas Stars weren’t allowed to settle in the game as their attacks were cut down regularly and with the offence
that they maintained, a goal was sure to come their way. This hard work paid off in the 2nd minute when the St. Louis Blues took the lead with the goal scored by Patrik Berglund, who netted the puck from 23-feet.
The Dallas Stars were able to respond to this and piled up shots frequently but this left spaces open at the back. In the 4th minute they were punished for this as the St. Louis scored once again to establish a two lead with a goal coming from
Andy McDonald’s 9 feet wrist shot.
The Dallas Stars responded to this later in the period when they scored a goal in the 18th minute from 25 feet through a James Neal shot.
During the 2nd period only one was goal was scored that leveled things at 2-2. The goal came in favour of the Dallas Stars and was scored by Loui Eriksson from 14 feet away through a wrist off shot.
The 2nd period didn’t see further goals and the 3rd period was also goalless. During the 3rd period the Dallas Stars outplayed the St. Louis Blues on several occasions but couldn’t manage to score.
The overtime also ended goalless and the game went into a shootout. The shootout saw the Dallas Stars carry the momentum and confidence that resulted in a goal for them. The winning goal in the shootout was scored by Ribeiro as the Dallas Stars won 3-2.
Detroit Red Wings win 2-1 against the Phoenix Coyotes after overtime
The 64th game took place this Saturday too at the Jobing.com Arena, home of the Phoenix Coyotes. The Detroit Red Wings played their 5th game while the Phoenix Coyotes played their 3rd game of the campaign.
During the course of the 1st period, the home team dominated the game in the department of offence as they scored the one and only goal of the period. The goal came in the 20th minute of the period and was scored by Martin Hanzel from
a distance of 35 feet through a spectacular wrist off shot.
Though the Detroit Red Wings managed to come up with a few attacks at the beginning of the period but they couldn’t convert any of those into goals. The period ended with the home team leading 1-0 after bombarding 12 shots at the opposing goal.
The 2nd period was a calm period in terms of attacks but the Detroit Red Wings scored a goal in the 8th minute to level the scores. The goal was scored by Pavel Datsyuk from 11 feet through a wrist off shot. This resulted in an even
tougher battle that developed between the two sides as they were looking to win the game by scoring a goal. Both teams had a share of the chances but neither of the teams could score.
The 3rd period was also goalless as during the period neither of the teams wanted to take the risk of being scored against so they preferred staying and waiting for an opportunity to develop.
However, this did not happen and the game went into overtime. During the course of overtime, the away team displayed some excellent ice hockey and scored in the 5th minute to win the game 2-1. The goal was scored by Niklas Kronwall that won the
Detroit Red Wings the match.
