Dallas Stars wins 3-2 against the Phoenix Coyotes to gain crucial points ahead of the postseason
The Phoenix Coyotes hosted the Dallas Stars at the Jobing.com Arena this Tuesday with both teams looking to win and come up with crucial points in the running for the play-off race.
The Coyotes have a decent run which saw them winning seven games in a row after which it has been up and down for them.
On the other hand, the Stars are placed in the sixth position in the Western Conference.
The game saw the Stars scoring the only goal in the first two periods and leading as the game went into the final 20 minutes of play. However, the Coyotes were able to fight their way back into the game and scored two goals to level the scores.
However, the goals scored once again to win the game 3-2 in the end. Jamie Benn of the Stars was named the star of the game as he scored the winning goal with just five seconds of play left.
Both teams made a slow start to the game where they were reluctant to go all out on the attacks.
However, with the passage of time things turned around as the teams changed with their playing style. There were shots on goal and some brilliant pieces of play.
The only thing that the game lacked was goals despite the numerous shots made by both teams as the period neared its end.
However, the Stars were able to come up with a splendid move in the 19th minute that saw them scoring through Tom Wallden from a powerful strike to get into the lead.
This proved to be the only goal of the game as the Stars led 1-0 as the teams went into the break. During the course of the period, the Coyotes made 8 goal attempts while the Stars made 7 goal attempts.
The second period started off with the Stars piling up shots regularly. However, the Coyotes with the backing of the home crowd managed to come up with shots as well but the problem continued for both teams in the department of offence.
The period provided both teams with some easy scoring chances but they weren’t to capitalize from these as the period ended with the Stars still leading 1-0 going into the break.
The second period saw the Coyotes making 9 goal attempts while the Stars made 13 goal attempts.
The final period saw both teams catching pace a turning the game into an offensive battle.
The away side scored through Jamie Langenbrunner from a simple tip in shot in the 13th minute to double the Star’s lead. The joy was short-lived as the Coyotes bagged two goals in the in the 17th and 19th minutes to level
the scores.
Rostislav Klesla and Ray Whitney scored the goals respectively which lead to everybody thinking that the game would go in overtime.
However, the Stars had other things in mind as they came up with a brilliant move in the final minute to score the winning goal which was scored by Jamie Benn during power play.
Resultantly, the Stars won the game 3-2 in the end with both teams making 10 goal attempts each during the course of the period.
