Dallas Stars wins 4-3 against the defending champions Chicago Blackhawks after shootout
The second last game of Friday and the second game which was decided in shootout was the Dallas Stars up hosting defending champions Chicago Blackhawks at the American Airlines Arena. This was the 827th game of the season and the 55th
of the season for each team respectively.
After a brilliant start to the game which saw the Hawks absolutely thrash the Stars, Hawks let go of the three goals lead they established. Dallas Stars scored three goals in the final two periods after they were trailing 0-3 at the end of the first period.
The scores were level at the end of regulation time but Dallas Stars managed to win the game 4-3 in the end after shootout. Brad Richards was the star player of the game for his crucial goal.
Dallas Stars were quick out of the blocks and fired a few shots on goal early on. However, defending champions stepped up their game after seeing the strong offence of the Stars. This resulted in the Hawks absolutely dominating the period.
Not only this, but the Hawks successfully took the lead with a goal in the 4th minute scored by Patrick Kane from a brilliant flick shot. Hawks didn’t take the foot off the gas and continued to pile pressure on the opposing side and scored once
again in the next minute through Brent Seabrook. The constant penetration through the opposing defence resulted in Hawks scoring once again in the 13th minute to take the score to 3-0 in their favour. The goal was scored by Patrick Sharp during
power play.
The period saw the Hawks coming up with an absolute gem of a performance as they displayed excellent passing and shooting abilities throughout the first period. There were several occasions where it looked as if a goal was going to be scored. However, this
didn’t happen and the period came to an end with Hawks leading 3-0. During the first 20 minutes of play Hawks made 9 goal attempts while Dallas Stars made just 6 goal attempts.
Dallas Stars changed their strategy at the start of the second period. Though it didn’t have any immediate effect but they were more confident out of the two teams. The hard work paid off for the Stars as they scored in the 16th minute through
Stephane Robidas from a brilliant wrap around shot.
Dallas Stars were controlling the pace of the game but they weren’t as successful as they should have been. The home team cut the lead to just one goal scoring in the final minute through Brad Richards during power play from a powerful strike.
The period ended with the Hawks leading 3-2. During the period Hawks made 8 goal attempts while the Dallas Stars made 17 goal attempts.
The final saw the Dallas Stars start in spectacular fashion and with some decent pieces of play the home finally managed to level the scores in the very first minute. The goal was scored by Brenden Morrow from a decent long range strike.
Though both teams were almost equally matched in terms of goals attempts made during the period but the defence did an excellent job in not letting the teams score. The period ended with the scores level on 3-3 which meant that the game would go into overtime.
During overtime no goals were scored but Mike Rebeiro’s goal in shootout proved to be the difference between the teams as Dallas emerged as 4-3 winners of the game.
