Daly confesses to playing drunk
Fan-favourite American golfer John Daly recently confessed to having playing drunk. In an interview with the Charlotte Observer’s Ron Green Jr., Daly admitted to not only playing drunk but playing better
when he was drunk throughout his career.
Daly confessed to Green that he had actually found it improved his form.
"I played better when I was drunk," said Daly.
Daly, now 44, was admittedly frustrated with his recent play, telling Green, "I've done everything right and haven't played worth a [darn]" adding, "It's unbelievable. I'm giving myself the chance to play
good. It seems the more I work, the worse I get."
Daly has not had a top-10 on the PGA tour in four years and he enters the 2011 season with no status on the tour. His last win on tour came all the way back at the 2004 Buick Invitational where fans saw
the vintage Daly - if only for an instant – get up-and-down from a greenside bunker for the win.
His loss of status on tour means that next year Daly will have to fight for sponsors’ exemptions. This should not be too difficult for Daly who continues to be among the crowd favourites week-in-week-out.

Daly was embraced by golf fans after winning the 1991 PGA Championship at Crooked Stick Golf Club after being the ninth alternate in the field. He then went on to capture the 1995 British Open at St. Andrews
where British fans were equally charmed by his unique personality.
Since these glory days, Daly has undergone his fair share of turmoil. He has been plagued with numerous injuries and has gone through three divorces in his life. Daly spoke of his injuries to Green, telling
him they “zapped” his confidence.
His divorces were also a source of distraction from the game but he tells Green that he has slowly come to terms with this aspect of his life.
"I look at myself and I'm not that bad a guy. I always thought I was the reason the divorces came,” said Daly. “I look back and it takes two to do that. It wasn't all my fault. I played a part in it but
I can't keep blaming myself for everything."
