I have a backboard that has got a few small areas of damage about 3cm by 3cm, Ive seen products that claim to be able to fill mdf, my question is do they work, and if not is there anything else that will do the job.

  1. I would think a good wood putty would do the job.  Sand down the area a bit to remove the finish to give the putty a better surface to grip to.  Wipe down with a cloth or a slightly damp cloth.  Using a putty knife, fill the the wood putty.  Use some pressure to work the putty into the surface and make sure the edges are overfilled so you get a seamless repair later.  At this point, it's OK that it's not flush with the surface!  A slight bump is just what you want!

Let it dry well! That could be overnight or 24 hours depending on the product you choose. Then sand smooth and primer and repaint.  Should take care of the issue nicely!

  2. I agree with the first person here, But once I didn't have wood filler so I used wood glue and saw dust mixed together into  a paste. Good Luck! :{)

  3. i would do the same as the first one but seal the mdf it is very porous and could suck the goodness out of the putty before given chance to dry. try using pva glue to stop the suction.
