Damaged Passport , but still have valid visa's on it . Would passport office give back my old passport ?

you might check with the agency in advance to see if it is permissible to return a damaged passport and if so, request that it be returned due to the visa stamps.

Since your passport is damaged, you can not able to travel.

If you are in India, contact the passport authority or the Indian embassy, if you are residing abroad.  They will issue a fresh passport against the damaged one and endorse all the details of your existing passport (number, validity, place of issue etc) to the new one.  Of course they will return back your damaged passport.

Remember, you will be levied a fee of 5 times more than the normal renewal fee of Indian passport. Once you got the new one, contact the concerned embassies/consulates to transfer your existing visas to the new passports.

Yes, one of my colleagues have accidentally damaged his passport and applied for a new one in Dubai Indian consulate.  The consulate has issued a new pp and returned the damaged one because it contains valid residence visa of UAE.  Confirm with the passport authorities or embassy, before submitting your damaged pp for a fresh one.

I'm not sure how it works in India, but in the United States and Europe they let you keep your expired passports, and I strongly believe that one should always keep these expired passports - for sentimental value if nothing else.

Having said that, I think you'll probably be able to keep your passport.

In fact, you shouldn't even need to transfer your visa to your new passport. Most borders will allow you to use your visa on an old passport as long as you have a current passport with you too. Keep them both. Carry them both.
