Question:

Damaged Scalp Settlement?

by  |  earlier

I went to a salon to get my hair colored and highlighted a while ago. I got a severe chemical burn and now my hair grows very slowly, if it grows at all. I still blister and "shed" my scalp even though it's been 4 months since the incident. The insurance company of the salon is willing to pay medical bills but they want me to give them a number to pay me for the loss of my hair and my damaged scalp. How am I supposed to answer this question? How do you put a value on your hair? What amount should I ask for? Should I get an atorney? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Well, are there any medical procedures you can go through to treat this?  Or will it just be a matter of time?  Does your hair look horrible or is it even noticeable?  Depending on how long you will have to live with this issue and how much it affects your life (besides they annoyance of shedding or scabbing) your number may be higher or lower.  There really isn't a straight answer, but if you throw a number out and they don't freak out and say NO WAY, then your number was too low to start.  You do not need a lawyer as these guys are already ready to pay.  Plus a lawyer would just take 1/3 of your settlement for doing no work.

    Good luck to you!

  2. I don't have a value but I wouldn't get an attorney. He will get 33% of your settlement and the claim isn't going to be worth that much to make it worth giving him 1/3.
