My ipod was in my rucksack with a carton of orangejuice. The carton was sealed and not opened. However, in the heat of the day, it kinda femented and exploded, causing my ipod to be completely drenched in orange juice for about 6 hours. It is an ipod video 5.5g. Had it since they came out. Since this was not my fault. And that it was actually a carton of orange juice that had built up pressure and exploded due to being in a hot rucksack for 4 days. Thanks

  1. Wendy had the perfect answer here.

Check to see if you had a warranty on it but I don't know if that will work either.

Sorry, but you are out of luck.

  2. are you wanting to claim that on your home or renters insurance or did you have it insured another way?  if you are looking to claim it on your home or renters, you may be able to , but it may not be worth it, depending on what its worth.  your deductible is probably high enough that it would make it not worth claiming.  if it was insured when you bought it from the company, you may be able to claim it there.

  3. Sorry, Taylor, I'm pretty sure you're out of luck here.  Unless you had the ipod insured separately under a Personal Articles rider there would be no coverage for this type of damage.  Homeowners insurance covers for  specific named perils like fire, theft, etc.  I've never seen one that covers for exploding cartons of OJ...  It would be covered if you had the Personal Articles policy but only if the ipod was specifically listed, and that's because they cover for everything not specifically excluded for  things specifically listed...

In any case even if it was covered it would most certainly be under your deductible, which means they'd pay nothing anyway.

If you could prove that the carton of OJ exploded (not likely, unfortunately) you might have some recourse against the OJ supplier, but even then they would likely say you were negligent by leaving the carton exposed to the heat of the day when it's really supposed to be refrigerated.

It's a tough lesson to learn, but I'm sure that from now on you won't  be leaving even opened containers of liquid in the same space as your next ipod, and neither will anyone else reading of your bad fortune!  At least you've helped others...

    Sorry, Taylor.  Best of luck!
