Damian Fyfe secures Boys 200m freestyle gold – State Teams SC Championships
Damian Fyfe of WA secured gold medal of the Boys 200m freestyle in 14-15 years age category on third day of the 2012 State Teams Short Course Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Monday, October 8.
The 15-year-old Fyfe served notice of his talent in the eight-lap discipline as he sprinted his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With his commendable form, he remained in a significant lead over his toughest challenger and surfaced on the wall for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 50.37 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Hayden Hinds-Sydenham of NSW, who was 3.13 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing end as second best finisher by reporting a time of 1 minute and 53.50 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Max Carleton of QLD, who stayed 0.44 seconds slower from upsetting his former finisher and emerged on the finishing wall as bronze medallist by submitting a time of 1 minute and 53.94 seconds.
Fourth finest spot of the race was obtained by Mitchell Davenport-Wright of VIC, who was 0.25 seconds apart and transpired on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 54.19 seconds.
Davenport-Wright was traced by Mitchell Hutton of VIC, who stayed 0.60 seconds slower and appeared on the finishing end as fifth best finisher by producing a time of 1 minute and 54.79 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Alex Chin of WA, who stayed 0.60 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 1 minute and 55.39 seconds.
Similarly, Chin enjoyed an advantage of 0.29 seconds over Bryto Heiniger of QLD, who proved his eligibility for seventh fastest spot of the race by clocking a time of 1 minute and 55.68 seconds.
Eighth spot of the event was obtained by Luka Zubcic of VIC, who was 0.40 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 56.08 seconds.
Furthermore, Fyfe was contented with his gold claiming effort and told that he would work hard to achieve the same in future.
