Damiano Cunego wins the second stage of the Giro Del Trentino 2012
Damiano Cunego of Team Lampre-ISD succeeded during the second stage of the Giro Del Trentino.
The cyclist finished the 152 kilometre stage in the fastest time of 3 hours, 59 minutes and 30 seconds to climb the top podium spot.
Carlos Alberto Betancur Gomez of Team Acqua & Sapone and Roman Kreuziger of Team Astana Pro Team finished at almost the same time to achieve the second and the third positions.
Eros Capecchi of Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Francesco Reda of Team Acqua & Sapone and Hubert Dupont of Team AG2R La Mondiale felt 3 seconds short to achieve the fourth, fifth and sixth positions, respectively.
Damiano was overwhelmed after the stage win, "I knew my fitness is good, the team is strong and the course was suitable for my characteristics".
"I'm very happy I made all these conditions become reality, obtaining the first victory in this season. This helps me to decrease the disappointment from the Cauberg crash [at the Amstel Gold Race]".
Cunego rode brilliantly in the 2012 season and finished second at the Gran Premio di Lugano. He claimed the 4th overall spot at the Tour of the Basque Country and 6th at the Volta a Catalunya.
The 30-year-old finished at the 40th position during the opening stage of the race and his stage 2 win has now improved his general classifications position.
Damiano currently holds the fifth overall spot after the stage 2 classification. Mathias Frank of Team BMC is leading the classifications with a total time of 4 hours 15 minutes and 23 seconds.
Roman Kreuziger of Team Astana is 3 seconds behind at the second position while Carlos Alberto of Team Acqua & Sapone and Marco Pinotti of Team BMC occupying the third and the fourth positions.
Matthias Friedemann of Team Champion System Pro Cycling is leading the Sprints Classifications with a total number of 6 points in his bag.
Marco Frapporti of Team Idea is dominating the mountain’s classifications with Davide Mucelli and Przemyslaw Niemiec at the second and the third position.
Carlos Alberto Betancur Gomez, Darwin Atapuma Hurtado and Angelo Pagani are the top three young riders after the end of the second stage.
Team AG2R La Mondiale is leading the team’s classifications with Team Liquigas-Cannondale and Team Lampre-ISD securing the second and the third positions.
