Damien Cattin-Vidal seizes Men’s 1500m freestyle gold: Day two – 2012 Swedish Grand Prix, Uppsala
Damien Cattin-Vidal upset his competitors by seizing gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on concluding day of the 2012 Swedish Grand Prix in Uppsala, Sweden on Sunday, February 5.
The 23-year-old Cattin-Vidal stunned the arena by demonstrating his nerve-wrecking performance in the distant freestyle discipline. He faced no trouble from his fellow swimmers throughout the 30-lap discipline and remained significantly ahead of his competitors.
With his relentless efforts, he completed his initial 200 metres of the race by posting a time of 2 minutes and 05.75 seconds. He was chased by Anton Bjorck-Teuscher, who enveloped the equivalent distance with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.66 seconds.
In the next two rounds, the arena saw daunting efforts of Cattin-Vidal, who spoiled the party of his strongest competitor by clocking an effort of 4 minute and 14.97 seconds. He remained nearly six seconds ahead of Bjorck-Teuscher, who covered the similar
distance by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 20.13 seconds.
The same continued in the next four rounds, where Cattin-Vidal went full rampant and ended his 800 metres of the swim by clocking a time of 8 minutes and 33.55 seconds while Bjorck-Teuscher posted 8 minutes and 50.50 seconds.
With his smothering efforts, Cattin-Vidal went on a rampage in the remaining rounds and ensured his gold finish event by reporting a time of 15 minutes and 59.32 seconds.
His effort was traced by Bjorck-Teuscher, who remained almost a pool length behind him and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing an effort of 16 minutes and 39.52 seconds.
Subsequently, the crowd experienced a laudable effort of Roman Plakhotnyi, who proved his eligibility for the third best spot of the race. Plakhotnyi remained considerably slower from the second position holder and completed his swim in a time of 17 minutes
and 18.62 seconds.
Cattin-Vidal was happy with his national gold winning effort in the 1500m discipline and stimulated hopes of his fans by expressing that he will try to make a substantial improvement in his timing at the 2012 London Olympics. Furthermore, the championship
ended after the completion of all listed events in Men and Women’s category.
