Damien McGrane finishes two behind the leading position
Damien McGrane shot 67 in the first round of the Volvo China Open, finishing two strokes behind the leader Matthew Baldwin.
The first round of the Volvo China Open is over now. McGrane scored 5-under 67 on Thursday, at the Binhai Lake Golf Club in Tianjin, China.
The 41-year-old displayed an amazing performance and competed well for the title. He opened the round by making a birdie on the 1st hole. Then after making three consecutive pars, he made another birdie on the 5th hole.
Later on, he added one more birdie and ended the front nine holes of the Binhai Lake Golf Club by scoring 3-under par.
He continued his leading performance on the back nine as well and carded two consecutive birdies on the 11th and 12th hole. He only lost his focus on the 13th hole, and shot the first and the only bogey, in the first round.
McGrane scored one more birdie on the 17th hole and finished the round by scoring 5-under 67. He amazed the spectators by scoring impressively throughout the day and by competing well for the title.
He finished two strokes behind Baldwin, who is the current leader of the tournament after the first round. He scored 7-under 65 and played a bogey free round on Thursday.
Baldwin played a bogey-free round and displayed amazing seven birdies in total. Out of these seven, he made long yard birdies on the 10th and the 11th hole respectively.
“It was very good today, so I am happy with that,” said Baldwin, “I just tried to keep everything as simple as I could. It turned out to be one of those days where there were a lot of chances and I managed to take a few of them”.
The defending champion, Nicolas Colsaerts is also performing well in China. He shot 4-under 68 in the first round and finished three strokes behind the leader.
He was successful in making an early eagle on the second hole. He also added three birdies till day-end and only carded one bogey throughout.
Hence, the first round scores are attracting most of the spectators on the course. The upcoming second round on Friday will be the more competitive and all the players have to deliver extra efforts to finish on the top.
