  1. Definitely.  He's a good presenter, a great driver, and with his position as President of the BRDC, knows the drivers far better than most people.

  2. He was interesting, I think his voice lacks a bit of charcter though.

  3. He did a solid job, especially as I doubt he's a commentary expert.

I wouldn't mind seeing him (or hearing him) commentating for the BBC next year, but I'm sure there's others that are plenty capable as well.

  4. Yes i thought he did a good job. Maybe the BBC should sign him up for next season.

  5. Was it Damon Hill!!!!!  I went 70 laps thinking it was Graham Hill!

  6. He did a good job I think once he learned not to talk over the team radios lol.

I think he would do a good job should the BBC want him and if he wanted to do it full time. I like the ex driver commentary, they know what they are talking about because they've done it themselves. I'd hate to see the BBC employ someone who doesn't 'feel' what he's commentating on

  7. James Allen seems like a Murray Walker wannabee, at times annoying.

However I think Martin Brundle is excellent.

Ex driver, great knowledge and a keen eye, he should remain.

I think as a commentator he is better than DamonHill.

But the two together, now that could be interesting.

  8. I actually didn't think he was that great.  Good for his first time but not good enough for full time.  Anyway, commentators are all likely to change once BBC have the races back so they will probably all be different.

  9. He was good, but i dont think he was amazing..

Although i hate james allen with a passion, not everyone in the uk supports hamilton!! IT was sooo unprofessional going 'oh yes!' when massas engine failed, after the brilliant race he had driven.

  10. I still miss Murray Walker and I feel no one, no matter how good, could ever eclipse him.  How I loved those Murray-isms.  *sighs*

  11. Yes I think he is a reasonable commentator but I doubt if he will ever be a great one.

I think all the people commentating on F1 at present are OK but again none are really excellent.

To make a sport really exciting to the viewing audience you need  someone of real class. Richie Benaud in cricket or Peter Alliss in golf or Peter O'Sullivan in horse racing are a class apart and make and or made sports that can be very boring incredibly enjoyable.

Perhaps next year the BBC can find an ex racer to bring the sport the commentary that could make in really watchable viewing to those who at present find it a bit dreary.

  12. h did a reasonable job.

There is some potential but he has a long way to go before he's up there with Martin Brundle.

If he got some more practice in (maybe watching some old footage of his racing days) he might be worth listening to in future?

  13. I really hope Damon carries on - the gentleman of Formula 1. :)

edit.....would someone tell 'Danny' below that Graham Hill is no longer with us :(
