Damon Hill says winner of 2012 Formula 1 World Championship will be a worthy driver – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Damon Hill has said that the winner of the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship will surely be a worthy driver as the competition has been extremely tough this year.
Hill said that the current season so far has been full of surprises and nothing can be predicted about the races ahead. Moreover, he said that the rivalry amongst the top teams has been very intense and the driver who will win the championship title will
undeniably be a worthy world champion.
“There are so many guys who are still in the frame. If you look at the drivers who are still in contention, they definitely are the most experienced, best drivers in Formula 1,” Hill, a champion in 1996, told F1Pulse.com exclusively.
“So it shows you that Formula 1 is the ultimate test for the drivers. And the guy who wins this season is truly unquestionably a worthy world champion,” the Briton added.
At present, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari is leading the drivers’ championship with 194 points and has performed remarkably well in the season until now. He has been the most consistent point scorer in this year’s championship fight and has a strong lead over
his major competitors.
The Spaniard is ahead of Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing who claimed an incredible victory in the last race held at Marina Bay Street Circuit. Besides, the defending champion has been followed by Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus who has scored 149 points and
has performed quite convincingly in the season so far. Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton of McLaren is standing at 4th place and is ahead of Vettel’s teammate, Mark Webber who has also shown some impressive performances also.
Therefore, the ex-British driver insisted that the championship fight is very close and the winner of this year’s title will surely be a commendable driver.
“I wish my history of what Formula 1 is as comprehensive as it needs to be to answer that question but in my experience this is a very close championship,” replied the 52-year-old.
It will be very interesting to see how the all the contenders perform in the remainder of the season.
