Damon Hill tips Michael Schumacher to quit Formula 1 soon – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 world champion Damon Hill has tipped the seven-time Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher to quit Formula 1 soon.
“By then I was too old to go on. After a certain age you're no longer able to be as fast or consistent, much less able to handle the pressure,” Hill told Motorinside.com.
Since Schumacher has returned to the sport in 2010, he has not been able to secure a single podium position for his team Mercedes GP and it has been a pretty disappointing run for him in 2011 as well. The team was expected to be one of the top running teams
of the sport this season.
Mercedes are quite clearly the fastest mid-running team of the sport and since they are in 4th place in the constructors’ standings, they have proved that a little more improvement will make them at least a podium position scoring
team in Formula 1.
Nevertheless, this is not enough and as Hill stated, Schumacher just cannot go on in Formula 1 like this and it is about time that he finally decides to retire from the sport.
“Michael is now 42, in my opinion it's too old to be competitive, plus he doesn't have a car for the top positions. He can't go on like this for much longer,” Hill predicted.
Back in the early 90s, the two former world champions used to be each other’s rivals and since then, things have changed a lot. Since Schumacher is 42 now, he is quite clearly not the same anymore as technology has progressed a lot and the sport does not
rely on the drivers as much as it used to back in the 90s.
The seven-time world champion has been doing a fairly good job and if he is provided with a good car, he might score some wins as well but that is something which will take time.
