Question:

Damp-proof integrity because of kid's den?

My hubby has attched a wooden post outside the house and we were wondering if the 2x2 upright, which crosses the dpc at the perpendicular will compromise the integrity of the dpc.

Many thanks in advance, and have a great weekend!

  1. You can slide a strip of Damp-Proof-Course in behind the upright, from the ground to above the DPC on the house, this is known as a 'vertical-damp', or you remove the post, coat the bottom of it with silicon-mastic and re-fix it to the wall.  Either will work just fine, but in the grand scheme of things, a 2-inch wide strip isn't going to have your paper peeling off your walls!

  2. The wood will have rotten and fallen of the wall before it would cause any problems concerning damp or dpc bypass, but well done for concidering the possibilty most people don't
