Damp proofing costs?

by  |  earlier

We had a guy come out to survey the damp in one of our rooms, he said it is due to a build up of condensation over the years (we bought the house in march this year) he said it would need skimmed and a new membrane placed on wall and then replastered. its only one wall Any one any ideas of cost???

He is going to send us a quote but wont be until next week and just wanted an idea if anyone out there had had the same work done.

Thanks for your help

  1. not sure what he is on about with a membrane?

is the wall plaster & is it coming off?

if it is condensation then it likely an extnernal wall. The large majority of condensation issues are caused by lack of venitlation. The room should really have an airbrick (high up on extneral wall) or a vent on the window of some sort & this should resolve most issues.

If he is plastering a wall complete it should be a couple of hundred quid I would have thought.

sort out whatever the cause of the condesnation is first I would say.

  2. your best bet would be to call out another 2 builders and get atleast 3 qutoes for the work that is to be carried out. this will give you a true cost of the work to completed.

  3. You don't say which room or the amount i.e. the area.
