Dan Carter cautions his side against Fiji for their upcoming test - Rugby Union news
All Blacks’ Dan Carter, who will start in the upcoming test against Fiji from the benches, has warned his side to be careful when playing against the Pacific Nations side on July22. The All Blacks are taking on the Flying Fijians at Carisbrook, Dunedin on Friday.
Dan Carter expressed his views about the forthcoming match on July 20 and said that Fiji has a competitive side and can give the All Blacks a tough time. The player also worried about the rough play that is present in the Fijian tactics.
The charity match is scheduled to be played for the earthquake hit people of Christchurch, just one day before the opening of the Tri-Nations Cup. The All Blacks side will participate in Tri-Nations Cup directly after the test match on July 23.
Talking to reporters, Dan Carter said that Fiji has played up to the mark in the Pacific Nations Cup and is expected to do the same in the upcoming match. Fiji played the final of the Pacific Nations cup but was defeated by Japan in the play-off match by 24-13.
Carter further stated that, “Just watching them in the Pacific Nations, some of their games they're extremely physical and like I said with them being so unpredictable they can score tries from the length of the field. It's going to be a tough match because they're always a pretty unpredictable side to come up against and always extremely physical.”
He also said that the All Blacks side is in good colours but his side must not ignore the Fijians, who can be dangerous on their day. Carter added that, “We pride ourselves on our physicality, so they (Fiji) are a good match. We're still learning a few things about our game plan so a lot of focus has been on us and not the Fijians.”
The caution has come after the Wallabies were defeated by the weaker Samoan side on July 17. The Wallabies rested a number of key players from the test match and ultimately ate humble pie against the World No 10 side. Furthermore, the Wallabies were labelled as arrogant by their national media.
