Dan Carter re-signs with New Zealand Rugby Union until 2015 - Rugby news
All Blacks star, Dan Carter has re-signed a four-year deal with the New Zealand Rugby Union. The player ended speculation regarding his future this morning and announced that he is staying with the union for another four years. The delayed decision has come
up as breath of fresh air for NZRU who was trying hard to retain the player in the squad. The deal would also benefit the Crusaders, who have had Carter on their roster since 2001.
29-year-old Dan Carter started his international rugby career in 2003 and has earned 79 caps up to now. He is also the highest points scorer for his team in international contests with 1188 under his belt. In his long rugby career he has scored 29 tries,
which is also one of the highest numbers in international rugby.
Carter told reporters about his fresh deal this morning and said that the flexible offer made him re-sign with the Union. He declared the contract memorable and said that he was waiting for such a handsome deal for the last six months. Although the details
of his contract are kept confidential, he claimed that terms and conditions of the deal were quite flexible.
Carter said that he has been approached by various overseas clubs to play for but he has preferred to stay with his home team. He explained, "The one underlying factor is the black jersey. It means a lot to me and the more I thought about playing overseas
and not being able to represent my country, it was pretty challenging so that's a big reason for me staying." He was reportedly approached by Paris based Racing Metro club to sign a three-year deal worth four million pounds, approximately $6.5 million, last
month.
He further added that he made the decision after pondering various options. Responding to a question about his delayed decision, he said that such a vital decision always takes time. He added, "I did not want to rush into anything. It is such an important
decision for me and my family and that is why it took so long. I have been working on this since last year and I think I have made the right decision. I am really happy and excited."
New Zealand Rugby union warmly welcomed Carter’s new deal and said it will inspire youngsters to stay in their homeland and play for their country.
