Dan Carter signed for 4 years by New Zealand Rugby Union
Dan Carter, the All Blacks super star and fly half has been one of the loyal ones and proved it once again by signing a four-year contract with the New Zealand Rugby Union for staying in the All Blacks squad.
This would mean the fears of Dan Carter moving to French clubs have been lessened, as the fly half would be remaining in the New Zealand international team even after the World Cup in September.
According to the contract, Dan Carter would be having an open option for playing overseas as well. The 29-year-old super star and the most prominent All Blacks have been getting lucrative offers from the French clubs. He is expected to sign one of those
deals after the World Cup ends.
A number of All Black players are already going for the catch and after much controversies and a bad era of French clubs reputation of stealing the players away, the doors seem to be open for all. Dan Carter made a positive move by confirming his international
presence first and now he can easily look forward to a French career too.
Carter informed the press, “There were a few different reasons for signing but the underlying factor was the black jersey. If I went overseas I would not be able to wear the black jersey and that was a big reason for staying.”
Steve Tew, the chief executive for New Zealand Rugby Union looked into the matter himself and supported Carter’s positive move and recognizes his interest in playing overseas in few of the richest clubs. French clubs have been busy gathering players from
Southern Hemisphere and getting a player like Dan Carter is a major development indeed.
Steve Tew said, “We are absolutely delighted Dan has chosen to continue his career in New Zealand and we have the utmost respect for him, knowing he had some serious options to consider. We have built in options for Dan to take an extended break from the
game. He will discuss that with us at the right time.”
New Zealand Rugby Union has opted for a flexible approach and according to Steve Tew, Dan Carter’s case has been given special attention.
Carter seems to be content with remaining in All Blacks, but since his major injury from his previous club Perpignan, he didn’t really considered of going back to Europe. Carter said, “I haven't looked at anything at all like whether I went back to Europe
or to Japan or even just took a break.”
Dan Carter made his international debut for All Blacks in 2003 and remains loyal to date. Dan Carter holds the record to be the second highest test point scorer after Jonny Wilkinson, who is leading by a few points only.
