Dan Carter wants to heal the wounds of Christchurch people with his performance
Dan Carter the member of New Zealand’s national rugby team is determining to help the earthquake-hit people of Christchurch through his good performance.
Carter also plays for Crusaders in Super Rugby and yesterday he has left for London along with his to take on the Sharks at Twickenham. He is hopeful to be included in the playing 15 in the fixture of 26th March.
The All Blacks and Crusaders front rower called the deadly quake of February 22, 2011 as ‘crazy, disturbing’ time. The Crusaders have been suffering to great extent by the natural disaster as they are left nomads after the quake. Crusaders belong to Christchurch
that was damaged by the fatal tremor in the last week February. The quake left 182 people killed; as many as 170 missing and thousands of houses were collapsed.
Carter found him lucky along with other five players for not claiming any damage during the tremor as they were in changing room at the time disaster.
He said, “I was going to take a shower when, suddenly, there was violent shaking and we just had to get out there as fast as we could.”
The Crusaders were going to host the five matches of current Super Rugby Championship at their home ground AMI stadium in Christchurch. The venue was damaged profoundly and was declared unfit to host any match. The same venue was scheduled to host seven
matches of Rugby World Cup, kicking off later this year in September. The AMI stadium has been deprived of all its world cup matches including two quarter-finals.
Earlier on the local team was forced to shift their matches to Nelson the nearest to their homes. Their upcoming match against the Sharks was also supposed to be played at AMI stadium. After the quake they made a request to the England Football Rugby union
to help them to organize a charity match at Twickenham in London.
The request was approved and charity match between the Crusaders and Sharks is going to be played on March 26, 2011. This would be the first match of Super Rugby to be played at other than SANZAR soil.
Dan Carter has said that he would try to present best of his performance if he is selected in the playing 15. He added that this is the fine way to help the misery people through charity match. He excelled his conversation by saying that he has taken part
in the relief operation and delivered drinking water to the masses.
He said, “As All Blacks, we are kind of held on a pedestal here in a nation of rugby fanatics. So you've got to make sure people know that you're just like everybody else, you're just human, going through the same emotional roller-coaster. Just because you're
an All Black doesn't mean you're not going to get your hands dirty to help out when needed.”
