Dan Hardy questions Carlos Condit’s sanity ahead of match
There’s trash talk, and then there’s Dan Hardy’s level of trash talk.
The outspoken British welterweight mixed martial artist had some choice words for his upcoming opponent Carlos Condit on Monday. The two are set to clash on October 16, and Hardy isn’t wasting any time building
up the fight. Condit earlier revealed he’d specifically requested a fight against Hardy, and Hardy suggested that wasn’t such a good idea, and went so far as questioning Condit’s mental faculties and intelligence.
"That was probably the stupidest thing he's ever done in his career,” Hardy said on mmafighting.com’s the MMA Hour. Condit chose the fight because Hardy is in a high-profile situation, having recently challenged
unsuccessfully for the title in April at UFC 111.
"I actually laughed. I actually thought it was quite funny," Hardy said. "I just think I'm a terrible match-up for him. What he's got in toughness, I've got tenfold. What he's got in punching power, I've
got tenfold. There's no way he can out-grit me, or out-work me in this fight."
Hardy, known for his stand-up, was completely outwrestled by Georges St-Pierre in his title shot, and Condit, known for having a good ground game, is almost certainly going to attempt the same strategy against
Hardy.
"I knew him watching him on the WEC and I thought he seems like an intelligent guy and he's up for a fight," Hardy said on the show. "But after him calling me out, I'm changing my opinion of him. I'm starting
to think he might have some kind of brain disability, maybe."
The bookmakers don’t agree, and have Hardy as just the slight favourite for this fight at around
-150 on most lines. But for the fighter, it’ll be a chance to prove himself, and the months of time he’s spent working on his wrestling since Georges St Pierre opened his eyes in April.
