Dan Haren expresses his disappointment after losing to Baltimore Orioles 3-8 – MLB Update
Dan Haren was the focus of the story developing out of the baseball circuit when the Los Angeles Angels lost to the Baltimore Orioles 3-8 on Friday, September 16 at Oriole Park in Camden Yards.
Haren played his 33rd game of the season as a starter and he was looking for a much needed win for the Angels.
The Angels were three wins behind the Texas Rangers and there was an opportunity to go on top by reducing the gap to two. The Rangers are currently sitting on top of the American League West and they are in matching distance of the postseason qualification.
Los Angeles is trying to oust their rivals but Haren’s night on the mound was horrendous to say the least. The star fumbled the club’s opportunity by giving away seven runs off seven hits and two walks in five innings of pitching. The player cost the club
dearly as the Rangers lost their encounter with the Seattle Mariners.
"It hurts," Haren said. "Everyone knows every game is so important."
The player was disappointed and he accepted his mistake claiming he would have wanted others to perform at their best level.
"I would expect everybody to be pressing," Haren said. "We got some ground to make up and time's running out. We can't lose too many more games."
The star went in to the game 15-8 but instead of picking up a win, he grabbed his ninth loss of the season.
"I've been searching for a little bit of consistency," said Haren. "I'm the same pitcher that threw a complete game shutout five days ago, and it's just frustrating to go out there and give up that many runs."
Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia maintained that the hurler was off his competitive form but he did stress out that Haren needed to be on his best level. Tommy Hunter, former starter for the Texans, won the game for the O’s. The irony stung the Angels more
and it keeps the difference in wins constant as fixtures decrease in number, day by day.
