Dan Haren shines as Los Angeles Angels defeat Seattle Mariners 4-2 – MLB Update
Dan Haren made an inimitable fight back with his ballistic pitches in the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 win over the Seattle Mariners, for their fourth uninterrupted triumph of the series at Angel Stadium on Sunday, July 10.
After allowing two-run RBI double to Adam Kennedy, the 30-year-old right-handed retailed in an unparallel manner and held the opposing batters to this score until the end of his eight innings spell. Haren made eight strike-outs, walked two and allowed five
hits to snatch his tenth win in a phenomenal manner.
He might have tossed his full game but his manager Mike Scioscia dropped him after he realised Haren’s pitching count has increased than normal numbers. However, Mike seemed pleased that Haren kept alive the Angels’ record of holding the opposition to three
or less earned runs in the last 21 of 24 games.
"Any pitcher wants to finish the game, of course," Haren said. "But I respect the manager's decision. It is not that bad of an option to go to me on 120 pitches about [he threw 113], or go to Walden fresh throwing 100 mph. Everything worked out fine and
everyone's happy."
Closer Jordan Walden entered and threw nine pitches to snatch his 20th save of the season.
Scioscia said, "Callaspo did a good job of getting into a hitting count. He got a sinker that was just up enough in the zone and drove it into the gap.” He further added. "He used his fastball and his cutter well today."
Mark Trumbo launched a dazzling 370-feet long home run off the Mariners’ starter Fernando Hernandez to tie the game at 2-all in the fourth inning. Besides this hit, Hernandez did not allow any score and struck-out six batters over seven innings.
However, after he handed the ball to reliever David Pauley, he allowed an RBI double to Alberto Callaspo in the eighth inning.
The Angels have also overpowered Seattle in the first three games of the series. They clinch the first 5-1, second 4-3 after a close encounter and third another easy 9-3 win. It was the Angels’ 50th win of the season while they have lost 42.
