Dan Haren sparks as Los Angeles Angels beat Chicago White Sox 4-2 – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels’ starter Dan Haren pitched with a game winning plan and struck-out six batters as the Angels defeated the Chicago White Sox 4-2 at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago, on April 17.
Haren expressed his excitement and said, “What we hope is that when [we] take the mound our team expects to win. That's how I feel and I feel like when I'm on the mound that the eight other guys with me feel like we're going to win that game.”
Dan threw till the seventh inning and pitched so well that he allowed just two runs on two hits and did not give up a walk. He made his spot in a team in place of Jered Weaver, who was the dominating starter for the Angels. Maicer Izturis also played his
role by scoring two runs on three hits.
Alex Rios hit the ball towards infield area against Haren to complete his run while Alexei Ramirez and A.J. Pierzynski also took singles off Haren. However, Haren got nine batters out before the double taken by Carlos Quentin in the seventh inning. During
the current season, Haren threw 19 scoreless innings with an ERA of 1.16, including two RBI singles.
Howard Kendrick stole a single on the error of Ramirez at short-stop position. Bobby Abreu had one RBI single and was struck-out before Torii Hunter completed his single on a sacrifice fly. Abreu’s double led off the Angels by 2-0.
The Angels’ closer Jordan Walden struggled in the start of the 9th inning but got some backup from his team-mates and hit out Juan Pierre to left-field for his third save. For the Angels, Mark Trumbo was the only man to hit a shot in the fourth
inning against the White Sox starter Mark Buehrle. The White Sox had a Win-Loss record of 4-6 in 10 games.
Buehrle pitched seven innings and gave up just four runs out of 10 hits. He also had five strike-outs with two walks. Then the White Sox reliever Jesse Crain pitched superbly as he struck-out four batters without giving a single run.
The White Sox’ manager Ozzie Guillen was not content with the team’s effort and wished to have some improvement in the roster. He further said, “In most of the games we were one shot away from winning it, but we didn't. The beginning it was the bullpen letting
the team down. We're struggling to swing the bat right now. Leaving Chicago, long road trip, those guys will come around.”
There was also some confusion about the home-run issue of Vernon Wells but was corrected after the assessment of umpires.
