Dan Henderson: I am just out there trying to be the best fighter that I can be – UFC News
American mixed martial artist Dan Henderson is not bothered about his legacy. He will be facing UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones in September, and a win could list him as the best martial artist of all time. However, Henderson insists he is not focusing
on the legacy right now but winning.
When asked if he will be rated as the best fighter in history if he beats Jones, Henderson told MMAjunkie.com, “That's not really for me to decide. I'm just out there trying to be the best fighter that I can be, and if people think I'm the best ever, then
even better.”
If Henderson beats Jones, he will win the UFC, Strikeforce, PRIDE and RINGS titles. Moreover, a win against Jones would be an upset for UFC, as Jones is their all time favourite fighter.
“I probably would've rather fought a lot sooner,” Henderson added. “But I'm giving myself a pretty long training camp to ease into it – and then I'll go hard.”
Henderson currently stands with 29 wins and 8 losses overall in MMA, with 5 wins and 2 losses being in UFC. On the other hand, Jones stands with 16 wins and 1 loss in MMA and 10 wins and 1 loss in UFC.
Both the light heavyweights will lock horns at UFC 151 in the main event on September 1 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
“I don't really think about what other people think. I know what I know. I know what I can do and what I'm capable of doing. I'm going to focus on what what I'm going to do to him, and not on what he's maybe going to do to me.”
While Henderson is focusing on a win against Jones, the UFC light heavyweight champion is looking forward to creating a streak of the longest title defence in history. As of now, the record is held by former UFC fighter Tito Ortiz.
In an interview last week, Jones revealed his plan of breaking Ortiz’s record to become the best MMA fighter in history.
